The Pilgrim Coach is a coach that is carrying pilgrims from Dubrovnik to the monasteries of Meteora Valley. On the way, a particularly devout pilgrim girl will question Passepartout on whether or not he is a true believer. She says that Meteora Valley will make him one, as being there is being a little closer to heaven (because it is high up, you see). Despite this, she returns later worried that all of the talk surrounding the Valley has been about its superficial beauty and that it may not have as much spiritual substance as she first believed, the very thought leaving her in a deep state of existential concern.
