Lin moved from China to America at some point in the recent past. He now considers himself more American, integrating with the culture.

Jing can be spoken to Passepartout, who notices his well-cut jacket. He explains his new life to him, saying he is happy to have become an American and ridiculing Jing Huo for wearing a queue despite laws against it.

Lin is self-assured and satisfied with his life, but also close-minded in not considering that people might want to cling to old cultural traditions.
