The Great Indian Peninsula Railway is a train line through northern India. It advertises a route from Bombay to Calcutta, but mid way through the journey is it revealed that the track is actually incomplete, meaning passengers can only make it as far as Allahabad. Aboard the train, Fogg and Passepartout meet Sir Francis, 'an old India hand', who derides the travellers when they tell him about the wager. Later on, he instructs them about sensationalist tales of the Kali-bhakts.
Should Passepartout have lost his shoes in Bombay, he will have the opportunity to acquire Loafers (Fogg's approval), Pearl Slippers or Chappals (both to Fogg's horror).
