Bruce McIntyre is a character in 80 Days. He has built his own Hot-Air Balloon.
Background[]
McIntyre is a retired army corporal. He is later revealed to have been suicidal, and left a suicide note in a local newspaper. He built his balloon entirely from scraps and plans to fly it across Australia.
Role[]
Phileas Fogg may have decided to go aboard McIntyre's balloon, to Passepartout's dismay. A storm hits their relatively quiet journey and crashes the balloon. McIntyre seemingly drowns, disappearing into the sea, while Fogg and Passepartout cling to the wreckage until they are rescued by Maori fishermen.
Passepartout may later read about McIntyre's suicide note in The Times.
Character[]
McIntryre seems quite troubled and uninterested in self-preservation. He is described by Passepartout as a 'lunatic' while he wonders how Fogg could possibly have found him.
