...And then you get stuck there; yeah, I remember one of my very first playthroughs ending right there in that jungle, lol. :P
It's possible with other seeds though, I did it quite a few times afterwards.
You do have to be rather tight though, you can explore to your liking even if you have the next route uncovered, but do take care not to miss tight connections otherwise. (E. g. a 1-hour gap to departure after you explored.)
And manage your inventory actively. (Buy everything, keep the Englishman's Wardrobe and Gentleman Traveller outfits and most of the departure-negotiating sets - Air Traveller, Railway Man, Heavy Storm, maybe Jungle Traveller for this particular journey - sell everything else above $100, conversation items and maps above $10, special items at where they are valuable basically.) That way you can avoid banks, which is useful. Don't worry if some of the sets are incomplete, just try to get them. A partial set can still be key.
Obviously, do complete the adventures - the Mutiny at Sea, Jesse James, the Circus of Yokohama (e. g. you can easily gain a day if you slump into stupor at Hong Kong before the Jade Tiger leaves to Yokohama - on the day you arrived, of course, negotiate, if not - , for example, 'cause that way you can leave in one day; there's practically no extra text by staying a night). Don't take the Sophos adventure though, it's a major distraction.
When not healing Fogg (you often do, remember, you are selling your recuperation sets for money) always use conversation during journeys to discover your next departure. This is particularly useful for the Hong Kong-Yokohama route and everywhere where there is just one batch of unique city text (and the other one is either 'I walked the city to discover possibilities to leave.', the default explore option if you discovered the unique text by taking the night or 'Before settling in for the night I washed our linen/run a few errands, etc.' the default hotel option if you discovered the unique text by exploring.) This helps saving a day where there is no story incentive to stay. Athens is such a city, Cairo as well (don't stop in Alexandria, if prompted), New York another one.
That's it in a nutshell. :P
